What’s Your Food Type?

Vegan & Vegetarian Diet

What’s your food type?

We each have foods we default to not just because it’s available to us, but because we enjoy them. These every day foods fall within a range of food groups we don’t normally pay attention to. The reality is we either love our proteins and couldn’t see a diet without it, or we fall on the opposite spectrum and couldn’t imagine a plate of food without a massive amount of vegetables.

Where do you fall on the food spectrum?

Do you eat like a vegetarian? Or are you a carnivore who sees vegetables as bird food?

With food types, we know the right foods give us the nutrients we need to function properly. We rarely pay attention to that knowledge, nor follow the standards set by the CDC. The simplest explanation of their guidelines are:

Eating a variety of healthy foods. Adding an array of colors to your plate and think of it as eating the rainbow. Dark, leafy greens, oranges, and tomatoes—even fresh herbs, which are loaded with vitamins, fiber, and minerals. Adding frozen peppers, broccoli, and onions to stews can also boost nutrients.

Instead, we default to the foods we love regardless of knowing that what we eat can help to reduce health risks that’s normally a part of an unhealthy diet.

Understanding what we eat and how it relates to our lifestyle is key to living a life of vitality.
